Nanette Gomez
Nanette
Gomez started her work at home job search in
March 2001 when she had her first child. She
diligently searched for a way to earn enough
income from home to allow her to stay with
her child instead of incurring the costs of
daycare and commuting back and forth to a
worksite.
At first, there wasn’t much for online
telecommuting work, so she had to find work
elsewhere. After awhile, online jobs became
more available to her, so she was able to
find some that were in her areas of
expertise.
Nanette, initially, started working full
time at home with up to 4 jobs at a time.
She soon realized that these jobs took up
much of her time within a day; not allowing
for too much family time, which is why she
wanted to work from home in the first place.
This realization helped to make the decision
to cut back to part time hours, so she could
spend more time with her children.
After six years of telecommuting, she has
held many types of jobs in the Data entry,
legal document coding, order entry,
invoicing (billing) and accounts receivable
fields. All of these have given her a great
deal of experience, which has given her
enough confidence to start her own virtual
assistance business.
Nanette has learned so much over the years
and even admits that she too was scammed at
a time when she was so desperate to find
work from home. However, the experience
turned out to be a good one, because she
made a group of friends who shared much of
the same experiences as her. They became a
strong group to network with and vent
frustrations to.
Nanette believes in having an arsenal of
tools to help in a work at home job search.
One of those tools that she recommends is
Telework Recruiting, which is a paid
membership site that helps one find
telecommuting job leads when they don’t have
the time to do it themselves.
Nanette offers her advice, to others who are
searching for telecommuting work, which is
to “Be persistent, it will take time but
with diligence and hard work you will find
something and you just never know where it
will take you.”
