Getting ready for your telecommuting interview
The key to landing a telecommuting position will be on how you sell yourself to the employers who are looking to hire. With all the competition you’re facing for that one position, you will need to stand out as much as possible. The interview process will help you do that. Here are some tips of ways to get ready for the upcoming phone interview that you may not have thought of before.
Preparing a cheat sheet- If you done some
research on what some possible questions
they may ask, you can jot them down and add
your answers as well. For those that find
the phone interviews nerve wracking, these
cheat sheets can help you answer those
questions with more ease instead of
stammering through them. It’s hard to
impress someone if your answers are too
choppy and don’t make much sense.
Relaxation techniques- Spend some time
before the interview actually starts by
doing things to help calm your already
soaring nerves. Everybody gets nervous
before an interview so it will be expected,
but being too nervous can hurt your chances
for getting the job even if you’re well
qualified for the position. Find something
that will ease your quaking nerves and get
through your interview with more confidence.
Role-Playing- To help your interview go more
smoothly, find someone to help you role play
an interview. If possible, do it as a phone
interview so that you can get feedback on
how well you conducted yourself over the
phone during the process. Make sure the
person who helps you with the role-play will
take this responsibility seriously and will
give you honest feedback. Work on whatever
you may have done wrong, so that when the
real interview takes place you’re ready to
go.
Eliminate all distractions- This is
important to do at least 30-40 minutes
before the interview starts instead of only
a few minutes before. The less distractions
you have, prior to your phone call the
better; as it will help you relax and keep
your mind focused to be ready to go when the
interview begins. Let friends and family
know, so they won’t be tempted to call you
up to wish you luck a couple of minutes
before the interviewer calls.
Refrain from some activities- Although some
people feel that smoking, eating and
drinking sodas help them relax; they may not
be the best idea to do right before an
interview starts. Sodas can cause hiccups
and burping to occur for awhile after
consuming and eating can do the same.
Smoking can cause coughing fits to occur
periodically for up to 30 minutes or so
after lighting up, so wait until the
interview is done before partaking in these
activities so that your interview isn’t
unnecessarily interrupted.
With proper preparations, your interview can
be a success. Learn from these tips and you
ace it and get the edge you need to land the
telecommuting position you want.
