Taking Breaks Can Help Your Productivity

When you’re a WAHM, it’s super easy to fall into a habit of sitting at the computer for countless hours doing work, networking, etc. Needless to say, I prefer doing my online work to doing housework so I’ve gotten a bit disorganized these last few weeks.

But yesterday I had piles of laundry to catch up on and I was having a bit of writer’s block, so I just took a break to fold some laundry. By the time I was done folding, maybe 10 minutes later, I had my client’s promo written in my head; the same promo that had me stumped just a short time earlier. It truly amazed me how it just worked itself out after I had stopped staring at the computer screen.

From now on I’m forcing myself to take breaks during my work day, especially if I’m having difficulty figuring out a problem. Stepping away is sometimes all it takes to clear your head and the solution will come to you.

Great post. I find that anything I can do outside helps me to refocus and get back on track!

So True! I definitley take a lunch break! It’s such a nice break in the day and I can come back to my desk feeling refreshed and ready to go! Some days I even go out for lunch to get some fresh air.

    Christina,

You’re absolutely right! So many people undervalue the importance of taking a break. Concentrating too long on one problem can just end up as a lot of wasted time, whereas stepping back and clearing your head, if even just for a few minutes, will leave you refreshed and renewed, and hopefully full of solutions!

Well you just stumbled on one of the most important home business secrets. When distressed and blocked, take a break. It always helps!

I had a forced break myself over the weekend when my modem burned up. It was actually kind of nice to focus on the house and family without “work” hanging over my head and vice versa. Now that I’ve gotten a lot accomplished around the house, I can focus back on work, and even though I have a few days worth of work to catch up on, I don’t feel as stressed because other household tasks are caught up.
